Slackware 15 to speaker icons in panel

In my fresh install of Slackware 15 the panel is showing two speaker icons in the panel. As far as I can see one is pointing to plasma and one to Kmix. Should they both be there? Does this mean that there is a choice of ways to control sound? Could these two interfere with another. It seems to me that one of these must be redundant. Should I be deleting one of these icons?
