Slackware-14.1/Xfce4: Cannot change workspace numbers; window frames

My lady friend uses a Sony Vaio laptop. Today, I upgraded it from -14.0/64 to -14.1/64 hoping that would solve the problems. But, no joy.

A week or so ago when she booted the system (runlevel 4) the xfce4-panel had only 1 workspace rather than the 4 that used to appear. And, window frames have no controls to move them or close them.

I've gone into Settings to try to fix these issues but without success. For example when I look at the dialog box in Settings->Workspeces it shows 4 workspaces selected, but has a name for only 1.

I have no idea what caused these issues nor how to fix them. There must be some xfce4 config file that carried over the corrupted settings during the distribution upgrade. Would that be in /etc/xfce/xdg/ somewhere?

Also, the screen brightness control does not work. It's set on mimimum but the intensity appears to be at the highest level.

I would greatly appreciate resolving these issues ASAP so I can focus on work and not futzing with this laptop.

THanks in advance,

Rich

I've seen this before and it has been discussed. IIRC, log out of Xfce to a prompt, then go to

/home/your-user-name/.cache/sessions/

and delete the xfce4-sessions files and xfwm4-whatever number file or files. They should all have today's date or a recent date.
Once done, log back into Xfce. This should clear up the problem without having to delete your configuration and starting over.
Cheers!

Thanks for the pointer. Having spent yesterday upgrading portables I did not think of looking for the session files until later in the evening. Very much appreciated. Worked like a charm, of course. :-)
