I put Slackware 14.0 on a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. The ethernet worked fine on it right away, but I had no wifi. The BIOS says it's using "Dell Wireless" (so helpful).
lspci is giving me the following network related items:
Code:
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX (rev 02)
0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 01)
lspci -n for these gives:
Code:
03:00.0 0200: 14e4:170c (rev 02)
0c:00.0 0280: 14e4:4311 (rev 01)
I got the WLAN driver from Dell's support site and installed with ndiswrapper.
ndiswrapper -l shows:
Code:
b44win : driver installed
device (14E4:170C) present (alternate driver: b44)
Based on the lspci results, that 14E4:170C is the ethernet (wired) device, not the wifi device, so I'm pretty confused at this point. Also, I seem to have lost DNS resolution. I can ping IP addresses, but not hostnames. This was working before. Any ideas?
