slackware 10.3

I've heard that Slack 10.3 should be released in a while, anyone here know when?

edit: At the same time, how do I create/change a user who has root permissions?

you can simply make a user with uid = 0
but it will be the same as you give someone your root password

Well "root" is both a user and a group. If you really wanted to, you could create a new user that belongs to the "root" group. I don't know that I would recommend that though -- it'd be the same as in Windows with the first user created also being a member of the "Administrators" group. It's better to either use "sudo" with a non-root user or simply "su" to the root account when you need to do something as a root user.

to answer your first question, i dont know i heard that it will be slackware 11 and not 10.3, but if you install all the packages from current, then you will have whatever it will be called when it comes out, either 10.3 or 11 or Slackware 2006...who knows

to answer your second question, why would you want to? you can add your user or the user account in question to the root group, but i do that and have never had root permissions, i still have to "su" or log in as root to edit some file somewhere. the root accout has uid=0 so you cant change one to the other, you might be able to change the root account uid first, then change the other one, but not sure if that will give you the results you desire either.

Can only be one root user, that is a key part of the system's security.
