I'm having a problem installing slackware 9 on my notebook (HP Pavilion/AMD 2200/256M/40G). This is the first time I've tried to install slackware. I'm booting from a CD created from an ISO image downloaded from ftp.ga-tech.(something). It boots fine and I hit <enter> to accept the default base.i kernel. It does some crunching and text scrolls by faster than can be read but nothing really stands out as an error. When it prompts me to enter 1 to select a different keyboard map or hit <enter> to accept default US it is unresponsive. I cannot enter numbers and <enter> does nothing. Haven't been able to find anyone who's had this problem in the search or anywhere in google ...
Anyone seen this before or have ideas on what I can try?
I had the exact same problem. Keyboard worked fine up until the question about the keyboard.
Unfortunately, my problem was with the USB keyboard on a desktop machine. My solution, just so I could move on at the time, was to simply use a PS/2 style keyboard instead.
Don't know how that would affect a notebook. Doesn't, I guess.
Maybe you have BIOS conflict? Maybe you haven't disable the Plug-and-Pray? Don't know what else it could be on a notebook.
I wondered if maybe the keyboard was implemented using USB. Not really anyway I know of to tell with a notebook, but certainly possible. I tried your trick of installing using a PS2 keyboard, but no luck ...
I found a kernel called usb.i that came with slack8.1. Supposedly it's base.i + usb support. Dowloaded and burning another CD w/ it now. I'll post results.
Finally found a post in google groups from someone else who had this problem. I had to disable "Legacy USB Support" in my BIOS. I tried to disable plug-n-play like itsjustme suggested, but didn't have that option at all ...
