Slack CD contains corrupt packages

Hi,

Finally I used install.zip to install my non-booting slack cd. But it seems XFree86* packages were corrupted. But the installation went quietly. "startx" is not there in bin. Even some *.so files were mising from X11 directroy. When I tried to install X manually from slack-cd, it reports corrupt tgz file.
So my download contains some problem.

How can I recover from this problem?

Also suggest my a nice link that explain about configuration printers, scanners in Slackware GNU/Linux.

Redownload and burn a new disk would solve your corrupt packages. And always verify with md5sums before burning to ensure they match where you downloaded from so this problem is less likely to occur.

Not sure how to check md5sums.. they explain it at www.linuxiso.org

Authentication required.
Do you have console ownership?

--something like that. The strange thing is when i press ctrl+alt+f7 no screen is changed. Only f1-f6 are accessible and all are ttys (text consoles)

You really will save yourself alot of trouble by redownloading the ISO and reinstalling. It is generally not a good idea to mix packages from one distribution with another as often different versions (and patch levels) of glibc are used introducing binary incompatibility. Additionally, different distributions usually compile packages with different compile time options.

WRONG MOVE!! Slackware needs it's own binary and library files.
you should have gone to Slackware.com and d/l appropriate packages to install.

just re-download a new ISO. will save future headaches trying to fix it all now.
