Slack 9.1 on laptop fires up my CPU !

i have slackware 9.1 installed on a laptop (AthlonXP 1400+).But whenever i boot slack, cpu is on fire coz the god damn fan is working almost all the time even if X is not running(if X is running the fan is working all the time).
I checked pkgtool and acpi + apm are installed. But right down on the taskbar with X working i get this "Laptop Power Management is not installed".I am working with laptop on DC power(bad english!) and not with battery.Same thing does not happen when i am working on WinXP. What may be wrong?

PS:my X is KDE.When u run KDE for the first time it asks u what os emulation u want.I chose windows but now i wanna change it to Linux/Unix.Any idea how to do that ?

rc.modules

In rc.modules you will need to uncomment the apm section. Once you do that run insmod apm and that will enable the power management. I had the same problem with my new laptop. The fan was alway running. I think that if you recompile the kernel with some acpi *bs* you can control the fan or something. I never bothered with it since the apm does all I need it to. Monitor battery.... suspend... etc.
