simple swaret question

when trying to upgrade from 9.1 to -current, is there a way to have swaret look at your packages, and if you have the current one, dont install.. if you have an old one, upgrade, and if you dont have one installed, then install it?? i think there are some random packages that i am missing that are not in 9.1 but are used in -current... for example, my alsa isnt working, and the arrows on my kde menu that point right, are not showing up... thanks

Looking at the man-pages for swaret I see this that might interest you:

Code:
       --upgrade
NO_OPTION : Upgrade all installed Packages manually
-a : Upgrade all installed Packages automatically
Don't be afraid to look at the man-pages!

yes, i see this... but it only 'upgrades all packages installed'.... if you havea package that is not installed, it will not install it.... does that make sence?

Yes, it makes perfect sense. I don't think there is a way to make it install packages you don't already have installed. Personally, I think this is a good thing. I prefer to choose what to install and avoid

yeah, my only concern is that there might be extra needed packages from 9.1 to -current

Actually, that's one area where you *should* be okay, since swaret has built in dependency checking. In the case where a package depends on something you don't have, it will download packages you don't have installed. It's happened a few times to me.

I think it's still possible to install "everything" if you do a swaret --install -a. I'm pretty positive that it will not reinstall already installed packages, since you didn't say --reinstall. But please don't try this until you're sure that this is the case

Anyways, you should already have all the necessary packages, as noahl said.
