There is one thing I remember.... Do you have the stock Slackware-kernel or did you build it by yourself?
And again the question about your Windowmanager. Do you work with a GUI? i.e. did you "startx" or do you boot into a GUI? or do you work in a virtual terminal?
The Windowmanager is set in Slackware with the xwmconfig command. Afterwards when starting X the selected Windowmanager is used. Normally it would be KDE, but there are several others.
Which programm did you use whe you checked your sound?
Hi Barclay, I have a ALC889A and had some trouble with my audio too. I had to create a text in "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf" with my HD audio model.
Hmm...I tried what you suggested powerball; and I also found the Realtek drivers page so I downloaded that, installed it and rebooted. Before the reboot my KMix program showed the device as Realtek ALC883 but there was still no sound so I thought I should reboot. Afterwards, KMix shows HDA_ATI SB as the device. I opened Mixer and it allowed me to select Realtek ALC833(OSS)? but KMix still only shows HDA_ATI SB.
