sendmail problem


I have just started sendmail for tests... and this is what happen, if I send an email to maginot@machinename.domain.com them I receive the mail, but if I send to maginot@domain.com I dont.. why this is happen? How can I set it to receive?
thanks... Im trying something in sendmail.cf anyhelp is apreciated..

First, don't edit your sendmail.cf file directly - edit your sendmail.m4 file and use it to generate your sendmail.cf - documentation abounds on how to do this

As for the problem, what do you have in your relay-domains file? This file should be in the same directory as your sendmail.cf file - if it is not there, create it and just add your domainname to the file and restart sendmail.

Hmmm I think we are going to need alot more info to resolve this. Heres a good first place to start, but check the DNS records. If you google around there are websites on the net that are "SMTP verification". If you find a decent one it will check a dozen or so things that need to be in place in order for your email to be correctly received.

So basically you need a live name server out there that will take domain.com look up the mail exchanger(MX record) for that domain and then send the email to that machine. If this is not setup correctly... you will experience what your experiencing now, where mail addressed to "domain.com" does not go, but "machinename.domain.com" does.
