Sendmail help...

Where are the orginal *.mc files located at? I found the sendmail-slackware.cf files but it says not to edit those and to only edit the "source .mc file." I did some searches and doesn't seem to exist. How can I edit this?

The "sendmail.cf" file is in there also but no *.mc files again.

Hmmmm

Hi again,

Thats a bit weird. The process goes: *.mc -> *.cf

So, you've got the product (*.cf) but not the source (*.mc). First, get the sendmail-cf rpm
(yum install sendmail-cf .. or whatever for your distro). If that doesn't fix the problem (and to be honest, I dont thing it will), then uninstall and reinstall sendmail. If that doesn't magically produce the sendmail.mc then I dont know what will ...

If you edited any sendmail configuration files, you may want to keep a copy ... I would backup /etc/mail (just to be safe) before you do anything ...

Regards,

Okay, I just needed to install the source package (Slackware). But, I seem to have configured everything to use my own e-mail address. I got my URL from http://dyndns.org, told sendmail to use my ISPs SMTP server (because they block port 25), and then I went to run pine and when I sent my e-mail to another one of my e-mail address', I didn't recieve it. Can anyone offer some help?

have you tried shilo's method of doing this?

shilo.is-a-geek.com/sendmail18.html

it's a very basic config for sendmail, but if you follow what he says, you shouldn't have any trouble sending or receiving mail....by the way, who is your ISP?

you also might want to do

tail -f /var/log/maillog

and see if sendmail spits out an error when you try to send a message.

One last thing that I had a couple of problems with was my connection was DHCP, and every once in a while when I rebooted it would change my address without me noticing. Do you have ddclient(or any of the other dns clients from dyndns.org) set up to automatically get your address and send it on to dyndns.org if it changes? That definitely caused me to miss a couple of emails when I forgot to check if my address is what dyndns had me down as.

Hope something here helps you out!!!

That is the guide that I was following. When it got to the part about configuring pine, I didn't see any directions to follow.

pine is set up automatically to work with sendmail, as well as elm and mutt. All you need to do at a command prompt is type '$ine' and it sets up your profile for it. If you want to customize it, there is a set up file somewhere in there for it.
