Segmentation Fault

ive reinstalled slackware a few times... and doing nothing ont he system except trying to compile the 2.6.0 kernel... and I go through the steps, and every time i get to 'make bzImage'... I always get this error at the same spot

CC kernel/exit.o
kernel/exit.c: In function `exit_notify':
kernel/exit.c:733: internal error: Segmentation fault
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.
See ttp://gcc.gnu.org/bugs.html> for instructions.
make[1]: *** [kernel/exit.o] Error 1

Chances are your RAM is faulty. If you're
overclocking try more conservative values ;)

I was having the same "Segmentation Fault" problem on my K6 machine. The problem was due to overheating of the processor during compiles. I took the heat sink off, cleaned the dust out of the computer, and applied a new coating of heat sink gel that is between the processor and the heat sink, you can pick up a little packet of it at most places that build computers. Since the cleaning job, I haven't had a single "Seg Fault".

yeah i would have segmentation faults and sometimes my computer would shutdown while compiling. I did just what dan did, cleaned the cpu and heatsink and applied some more thermal compound and its been working fine since.

I have had that problem with Mandrake 9.1 and my CPU is running cool. You may want to check and make sure you have the correct chipset for the mobo and ide controller. I have not had that problem in Gentoo though, which I use mostly now.

Acyually I have seen those signal 11 and segmentation faults at the same time on Mandrake. They may be related.
