search drives


is there any programms that can search hardware like in windows
i have an asus cd writer an other drives that i cant use them

Run lspci and dmesg.

No. For connected usb drives use lsusb. For raid - lsraid. If you have compiled 2.6 kernel with sysfs support, look at /sys. You can also look at /var/log/messages after connecting the device.

sorry i have 2.4 kernal it works fine with me
but i asked about like connecting westerndigital hard disk in windows
i see it automatically but in sw i have to mount it drive - drive
cant sw be more easier!!!

First I've heard about a western digital hard drive.

IDE harddrives are normally given a device name of the form /dev/hdXN. Where X is a letter {a,b,c,d..} that refers to the physical location of the drive, for example /dev/hdb would be the primary slave hdd. N refers to the partition number that you want

You can add an entry to /etc/fstab to have the drive mounted at boot time automatically.

You can automatically mount your drives in fstab. See: 'man fstab'
