Scanning with The GIMP.

As the backend is SANE, I doubt it would make much difference, if any, but I would be interesting in trying to scan directly into The GIMP.
However, it would appear the most recent version of The GIMP no longer supports scanning as the "acquire" option has disappeared.
I've tried settng up a symbol link between SANE and The GIMP, but it doesn't work.
Has anyone been successful scanning with the latest version of The GIMP?
Thanks.

Hi, I've been using irfanview in vbox xp vm to do scans, just looked to see how to do what you're asking about and found THIS

ln -s /usr/bin/xsane ~/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/

seemed to work ok, xsane came up, after scan image was in gimp, is that what you tried?

not sure this works with version of gimp in current

Good question. I wondered about this too. Some digging through gimp and sane docs said you cat set up xsane as a scanner plugin. Try this:
Code:
ln -s /usr/bin/xsane ~/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/
then in gimp, "File-Create" should show the xsane dialog

@ glorsplitz and kingbeowulf,

Thanks for the suggestion. I had found similar information and tried it, but it didn't work. However, upon closer inspection of what you recommended,

Quote:
ln -s /usr/bin/xsane ~/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/
as compared to what I found,

Quote:
ln -s /usr/local/bin/xsane ~/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/
I noticed the error, made the correction and was able to get it to work.

Unfortunately, as expected, it didn't improve anything and added another layer to an already slow process (in Linux).

Again, thanks for the help!
