sb live 5.1 and alsa

Ok ive been spending some time looking for a solution to my problem but havent really found anything that helped, what ive done is: I have a onboard sound card that i dont want to use anymore for a few reasons, so i disabled it and threw in my SB Live! 5.1 pci card, recompiled my kernel (2.6.7) to remove any alsa and oss stuff but left sound card support in, then i installed 1.0.7 alsa drivers, lib, utils from these instructions: http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...module=emu10k1

Everything seems to work fine installing the drivers etc except i get no sound at all. I ran alsaconf, alsamixer and saved the settings, drivers and sound card seem to be loaded and detected fine, but still no sound.

Here is what i get from lsmod, lspci as it pertains to my audio card:

Module Size Used by
nvidia 4815252 -
snd_pcm_oss 48712 -
snd_mixer_oss 17540 -
snd_emu10k1 98280 -
snd_rawmidi 21000 -
snd_seq_device 7152 -
snd_ac97_codec 73632 -
snd_pcm 88260 -
snd_timer 22568 -
snd_page_alloc 7468 -
snd_util_mem 3268 -
snd_hwdep 7364 -
snd 49412 -

00:06.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 07)
00:06.1 Input device controller: Creative Labs SB Live! MIDI/Game Port (rev 07)

any clues as to why i dont get any sound?? Maybe i missed something in alsamixer that im not aware of, im not sure.

Did you test the sound after running alsamixer, or did you save the settings and reboot? If you rebooted try the alsactl restore command. If not, what channels are present in alsamixer, do you recieve any errors?
good luck.

well, i ran alsamixer unmuted a few things, master, tone, pcm, mic and put them all on max just for the time being (well the ones that u can change volume on anyway).

alsactl restore i have in my /etc/rc.d/rc.local file so it loads the settings when i reboot, and yeah i did try rebooting.

also i dont see any errors anywhere when i reboot or when i play a mp3 in xmms it seems to play it just fine, just no output

its probably something stupid i missed somewhere, knowing me
