Sane - After upgrade to 1.0.22 can't find my scanner

Hi all

I'm not sure that this issue is 100% slackware related, but I try to report here anyway.

I have a Samsung SCX-4200. It was working pretty good with sane 1.0.21
I'm using slackware current, keeping updated (almost) every day.
On the Mon Feb 28 update sane was updated to sane-1.0.22-i486-1
After that update xsane (as user) cannot find my scanner. I was able to find it running sane-find-scanner as root, but scanimage -L (as root) wasn't able to find the scanner.
Now I have updated to the last sane package, named sane-1.0.22-i486-2 . In the changelog I can see that this rebuild should add libusb support.
In fact .. now there's no way to find the scanner. And now also sane-find-scanner (as root) is no more able to detect the scanner, also running the command as root.

I've tried running sane-find-scanner -v -v and scanimage -v -v -L but I can't get no useful hints. I have checked the sane configuration files but always seems good (the row with USB IDs is not commented in the backend file, which is xerox_mfp, and the backend is listed in dll.conf)

Any hint?

Thank you

Alessandro

Hello,
If you need a quick fix, then "removepkg sane" and then finding and installing 1.0.21 version, most likely will do the trick. But that does not explain why your scanner stoped working, but unfortunetely I am not skilled enough with sane to help you.

But i too have a problem with scaner Canon lide 25, sane 1.0.21 just won't detect it. Tried running sane as root, and as normal user, no effect. But in my case, there is a chance that scanner it self is faulty, atleast for now, i cannot tell for sure if such is the case.

I wonder if --enable-libusb_1_0, which the ./configure was recommending to make scanning faster, has broken things? That was added about a week ago, about the time bug reports on SANE began.

You could enquire on the sane-devel mailing list about your issue. There has been a report lately on there that that specific backend is not working correctly. Maybe your feedback could prove valuable.

Well, I'm using sane every day, follow -current as well, but have had no problems with my usb scanner (HP G2710).
So, unless it's something specific to some drivers, sane is still working after the update.

Thank you all for the replies.

I'll try to write in sane mailing list

Best regards

Have you tried reinstalling sane-1.0.22-x86_64-2?

If I recall there was quit a few configuration file changes; mostly additions. Did you properly merge the changes? One of those was xerox_mfp.conf, which contains your printer:
Code:
#Samsung SCX-4200
usb 0x04e8 0x341b
as one of it's entries. This was not one of the changes; the was only additional entires added the file.

I have a Canon PIXMA MP258 connected on my server and have no problems using it on my LAN.

FWIW my Brother DCP-110C, which uses a USB 1.0 connection, is working with both xsane and Skanlite in 13.37 RC3.

I'm using slackware 32 bit

I've merged the changes, this is the device that was working with sane 1.0.21

Sane - After upgrade to 1.0.22 can't find my scanner.

Hi all,
There must be a problem with version 1.0.22 for some scanners. I have had the same problem with my Epson SX525WD printer/scanner. Only got it working again by reverting to version 1.0.21 for Slackware 13.1

Would you guys mind taking this to the sane-devel mailing list?
Complaining here about regressions in 1.0.22 won't help much in getting them fixed...
