rsync slackware-current ownerships

Hi,

I have an rsync script in /etc/cron.daily that mirrors slackware-current. I just noticed that the directories/files that it creates in my home directory are all owned by 10001. I assume this is the user id for rsync or maybe cron.

My question is:
When I want to create an .iso will those ownerships be transfered to the cd I burn them to, and if they do, is this a problem when I install slackware-current from the cd? Do they need to be owned by root?

Here is the rsync command:
Code:
rsync -avu --delete slackware.mirrors.tds.net::slackware/slackware-current /home/ryan/
Thank you in advance

Not sure about the user who owns them, check your /etc/passwd to see if that user exists. It might be who owns the files on the remote server.

As for the CD permissions, I'm about 99.9% sure that permissions aren't supported on a CD-ROM, so burning the files and installing should go without a hitch.

Also, have you ever tried using Alien Bob's mirror-slackware-current script? I use it and find it works great. I have a cron for it to run and create CD and DVD iso's every night.

I checked /etc/passwd for that user id and it is not there so maybe it is from the remote server. I guess it really doesn't matter if it won't effect the cd.

Yes, I have used Alien Bob's script. I'm just trying to do it on my own as a learning process

Thanks Voltar

From man page of rsync for --no- options:

For example: if you want to use -a (--archive) but don't want -o
(--owner), instead of converting -a into -rlptgD, you could
specify -a --no-o (or -a --no-owner).
