I second what others said in posts #2 and #3.

I can attest that. And don't ever suggest to him to do some RTFM. It seems he's easily offended by the letter F and will flame you for it.

Not sure if this thread was supposed to end up being a humorous read, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Although I don't envy anyone that runs into problems with software and/or computers at least this isn't Stack Overflow...

It's PEBKAC-related.

User error or not, responding with proper help and concern rather than criticism and contempt is the better path to travel.

This remains a Slackware forum. The least we can expect from people here is that they have Read The Fine Manual prior to asking questions.

Yes and that's a point worth taking note of, but not everyone learns from the manual. Some learn by example, some from books, others hands-on or the such.

Assuming Read the F---ing Manual is given, there's still no grounds or basis for negative comments and bashing.

Yes this is a Slackware forum, but providing help and support is the basis of this entire website. It shouldn't matter who read the manual, glaced at it, ate it, printed it out and wiped their rear with it, or rolled it up and smoked it. People need to stop acting like they have a sharpened stick shoved up their posteriors and help others. No one wants the zealot on the high horse. People want people.

The *bleep* there isn't. 3K postings. At least 2K requests for help. How many times must one lead a horse to water?

He/she has been using Slackware 12.0 for no more than 7 years. You learn to walk faster than that.

I'll be so bold to make a categorical assertion here. You learn system administration by 1) reading 2) experimenting 3) writing your own digest. And I don't mean 1 or 2 or 3, I mean 1 and 2 and 3.

This post reveals far more about the poster than the target of the insult.

Welcome to the the 4chan sub-forum of LinuxInsults, and inhale the smugness.

Any further attempts to justify and/or rationalize such behaviour is an insult to anyone who happens upon this thread.

cheers,
