Reinstalling X server or upgrading it

Hey! can anybody here give me a procedure or instructions on how to reinstall the X server or upgrade it to the latest? Every time I played around with X I screwed up things good... I think it got corrupted and I have display problems that I cant fix, so far everything points to a software problem, probably X server...

If you need more background info:

THANKS A LOT!!

Easiest thing to do is boot into runlevel 3, mount your install disk, cd into the x directory on the disk and do
Code:
upgradepkg --reinstall --install-new
you could also download the x series from one of the current mirrors and do the same thing from the directory after you mirror the files. Lastly Robby has a thread here right now about call for testing where he is working out the bugs for the newest xorg packages which are available here and the upgrade procedure is the same. So that's the easiest way I can think to go back, go current, or go into the future. HTH

That's no guarantee to fix whatever your problem is. Just to upgrade X

That did not work... I copied the X folder from the install DVD and ran init 3 to go into runlevel 3 and then typed the comand you suggested. I got only "Package already installed" messages and it took about 5 seconds to go through the whole list... I doubt it would reinstall all the packages that fast...

If you use slackpkg, that will update it.
