Quick Upgrading

I wish to update my Slackware box to 12.0, however downloading the ISOs would be a waste as I like to keep my Slackware as minimal as possible and I have no use for a countless number of packages on the CD.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what's the best way to do this?

If you wish to upgrade to Slackware 12 the quickest way is to reinstall it that way you can install packages that you wish. The tool chain and X has been changed so most everything is new as I see it. I may be wrong on this issue but as I understand it unless you have already been keeping current it is better just to backup your data and reinstall.

If you follow directions of UPGRADE.TXT file, you can instead of using upgradepkg --install-new you can use upgradepkg only, however, there was a lof of packages splitting from 11 to 12, so be sure to read CHANGES_AND_HINTS file to note them.

You can download individual packages from any Slackware mirror and upgrade manually by following the readme files on the mirror.

Hi,

As stated, you should look at the Slackware 12.0 'UPGRADE.TXT'. You should also read the Slackware 12.0 'RELEASE_NOTES'

Downloading Slackware 12.0 would be the safest and easiest way to upgrade. You will need install d1, install d2 and install d3 if you need /extra. Disks 4,5 and 6 are source.

You can burn the iso image for each disk or just mount the iso using the loop device.
