Quick lilo question

I have windows on dev/sda1 taking up the full disc.

I have set up on my second disk
Quote:
sdb1 ubuntu root
sdb2 ubuntu home
sdb3 linux swap
sdb4 slackware root
sdb5 slackware home
I plan to chainload ubuntu on to lilo using instructions from this thread...
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...632/page2.html

When i run lilo it tries to load lilo on the MBR of the root directory. Cannot remember the exact command to load lilo on sda (the first disks MBR)

Is it as follows...
Quote:
lilo -b /dev/sda1
or
lilo -b /dev/sda
Thanks in advance

From "man lilo"
Code:
       -b bootdev
Specify the boot device; i.e., where the boot loader will be installed. "-b /dev/hda" specifies the Master Boot Record; "-b
/dev/sdb5" specifies the first extended partition on the second SCSI disk.
So to install LiLO in the MBR of /dev/sda run "lilo -b /dev/sda"

You can run "lilo -t -v -b /dev/sda" and it will output what would
be done, but the t switch is for test, so it will not actually
write it.

Your partition table on your second disk says
Quote:
sdb1 ubuntu root
sdb2 ubuntu home
sdb3 linux swap
sdb4 slackware root
sdb5 slackware home
You can only have 4 primary partitions. If you desire more than
4 partitions, you will have to have 3 primary, then the rest will
have to be logical partitions.

Thanks Bruce, in the meantime I have decided to go with Ubuntu's Grub2. It's does the job and I have set Slackware as the default OS. The only thing is that during the boot I have lost the four penguins. I can live with that though.

Partitions were already set up as you have indicated

Hi,

I want to clarify something that Bruce stated. You can create the three primary partitions then create a extended partition with the rest of your space. Within the extended partition you can then create your logical partitions.
