pygtk

Hi all,

I wanted to try to play with python and linux gui development. My plan was to have a look at using pygtk, but the import of the module fails:

Code:
$ python
Python 2.5.1 (r251:54863, May  4 2007, 16:52:23)
[GCC 4.1.2] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import pygtk
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
ImportError: No module named pygtk
>>> import gtk
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
ImportError: No module named gtk
>>>
I have gtk+-1.2.10, gtk+2-2.10.13 and pygtk-2.11.0 installed. What am I missing?

Looks like the package pygtk is broken. I would remove it and then get either pre built packages from Alien Bob's builds at http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slac...ygtk/pkg/12.0/
or possibly a Slackbuild if you want to build from source.

Don't forget to install pygobject and pycairo as they are dependencies. These are also available on Alien Bob's site or at SBo (Slackbuilds.org) - as is pygtk.

It was the dependencies issue. Get pygobject and pycairo from LinuxPackages.

Thanks for your help.

Just for future reference, there is a slackBuild for pygtk and the two dependencies, pycairo and pygobject.
