sound blaster cards should be autodetected by the system, unless you have a custom kernel without support for emu10k1 chipset. If that is the case, just recompile and enable it. if you havent recompiled at all, it should autodetect the drivers for it by default. what is the output of lsmod on your system?

Ok go back into your kernel under sound.

Device Drivers --->
Sound --->
<M> Sound card support
<M> Advanced Linux Sound Architecture
<M> Sequencer support
< > Sequencer dummy client
<M> OSS Mixer API
<M> OSS PCM (digital audio) API[*] OSS Sequencer API

Generic devices --->
<M> Dummy (/dev/null) soundcard
<M> Virtual MIDI soundcard
<M> MOTU MidiTimePiece AV multiport MIDI
<M> UART16550 - MIDI only driver
<M> Generic MPU-401 UART driver

PCI devices --->
<M > C-Media 8738, 8338
<M> EMU10k1 (SB Live! & Audigy, E-mu APS)

^^^^Just add the other card as a mod^^^^^

All you need to do when you exit the kernel is

"make modules_install"
"modprobe snd-emu10k1"

then in add the following for any future reboots.

/etc/modprobe.conf

snd-emu10k1

if it says "no screen", check your XF86config. the problem MOST probably lies there

for modprobe snd-emu10k1, do i have to run that? cause i already have the kernel compiled with emu10k1 as a module. or do i only need to add snd-emu10k1 to the modprobe.conf?

Both ;-)

modprobe it now so you can use it without rebooting & place it in your modprobe.conf for future reboots.
