Problem with java.6_u11 (and _u10)

I upgraded Slack from 12.1 to current some time ago and have kept it up to date since.

The problem I have with java is, it seems to work fine in a browser, that it doesn't work from a terminal.

Trying to run ControlPanel I get:
ControlPanel: Error: Invalid link or copy:

Allso, java apps I can run from a browser but not from a link like:
javaws https://fx1.oanda.com/java/beta.jnlp

If I downgrade to java.6_U6 everything works fine.

cheers!

Looks to be something with your environment/path.

Try this:

Code:
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/java
export PATH="$PATH:/usr/lib/java/bin"
Then try your java commands. If that works, then you've got a screwy or non-existent /etc/profile.d/javawhatever script. Make sure the paths above are correct for your box ofcourse.

Just a guess tho.

Hi jong357, thank you for the reply.

I don't think it's path problems, I'm using the official Slackware packages so that should be in order since I can run the commands from anywhere.
The error messgs are coming from within the ControlPanel script itself and in the case of javaw it starts but is unable to run the applet.

Thing is, I can see no difference between the two versions, so from my point of view if one works the other should to.

The other thing is that I see complaints from people having similar problems on other platforms, ie. works fine from a browser but not from a shortcut, so maybe this is an error from Sun, _u10/11 are beta versions after all.

Cheers!
