I use Slackware 15.0 as my operating system, and have an HP Deskjet Plus 4140 printer, and the problem that I am having is that whenever I go to print a multi-page document, the printer prints the first page - then stops, and I have to press the "Resume" button in order to get the printer to finish the printing out the document. Is there any way to resolve that issue?
Just for the same of clarity, when you say "press the Resume button," do you mean going to http://localhost:631, finding the printer and clicking to resuem or to something else?
It's a long shot, but you might take a look in the log files, particularly /var/log/cups/.
No, i meant that i press the "Resume" button on the printer's control panel.
And for the record, I just checked 'var/log cups' and hire is a sampling of what I got:
Code:

Without going to far into the weeds on paper count, have you checked your duplex printing settings in the print dialog? Is the printer set for duplex each time and expecting you to flip paper?

Thanks for clearing that up! (I have an HP, and I've never noticed--or needed to look for--a "resume" button.)
Is the printer firmware up-to-date? (I ask only because my HP printer, which is on my network, just updated its firmware.)
It might be worth while, the next time this happens, to check the printer's status in CUPS to see whether CUPS is reporting anything out of the ordinary. It's a shot in the dark, but, if CUPS looks normal, it might be some kind of weird issue with the printer itself (though, I have to say, I've not heard of this particular quirk before and I've used HP printers exclusively for over a decade).
I've owned an HP P2015 b/w laserjet printer for a little over 15 years. It's still working well. If there's nothing wrong with the printer itself (no printer jams, out of toner, something broken) it might be software related.
The CUPS is rather unforgiving when it has an error and it will hold an unfinished job in the printer queue. You can open up the CUPS web interface with:
Code:
localhost:631
Go into the administration section of the interface. On occasion I've had to re-install my printer using the CUPS web interface. You can delete your printer and re-install it within the CUPS interface, set options, and give your user permission to print. That may purge a stored error.

My printer was designed only for single-sided printing.
