prblms with ADSL setup. no luck after adsl-setup and netconfig

Hi all,

This is my first post, kind of a linux newbie, but been using it for quite a while (first experience was slack back in '99). However, after overcoming my initial problem of getting my sata drive to work with slack 10 install, i cant seem to get my ADSL up and running.

I have read lots of posts here, and i have tried pretty much everything.

I have run adsl-setup and netconfig (numerous times), being 99% sure everything is setup right. I tried raging penguin as well, but seeing as it is basically the same as adsl-setup there was no luck there either.

I type 'adsl-start' and it times out.

I have a billion 5100 adsl router that acts as a gateway with ip 192.168.1.254. i am trying to connect to it via eth0. Pretty sure eth0 is setup right, as i can ping my xbox which is on the network, and also, the correct info comes up after typing 'ifconfig'.

Any ideas? what am i doing wrong?

cheers

Hmm, i was reading some specs about your router on a product website, and it says that DHCP capability is built into the router. So, you might want to try this instead of the adsl-setup, etc. commands:
Code:
su

netconfig
When it asks for hostname, put whatever. Domain, put whatever. And then on the next screen select DHCP. Next screen don't put anything. And then review the settings, exit. (you may have to restart, not sure) Then, hopefully when linux starts it will automatically grab an IP address from your router and get you on the internet.
