Portage

I have seen people moving to gentoo just for portage, a BSD ports based program. I won't go into the detail of how portage works, but after looking around the gentoo forums, I found this:

Portage on Non-Gentoo Distro

Might be worth a try. In the later pages of the topic there is an app for slackware users so portage knows what you have installed.

Well would you use Slack over Gentoo if slack had portage?

what someone aught to do is do a little rewriting in portage so its more portable (no pun intended)

by that i mean rather than having it configure and wirten to run in gentoo, someone aught to make a package specifically made to be installed ontop of other distros.
