OpenOffice 2.0.2 on older Slackware distros

Greetings to you all. I've been reading on the different ways people have installed OpenOffice on Slackware distros and there are plenty of ways to get OO installed. One thing I've noticed is those methods tend to support newer Slack distros (basically 10.x) and not really older ones.

So, I'm looking for feedback from folks who have installed OO 2.0.x on Slackware 8 or 9. I'm pondering building from source but one of the build requirements is PAM, which I don't have.

So, are there any Slack 8/9 users out there running OO 2.0.x? If so, how did you get it up and running?

Peace...

Check what dependencies OO.o has against what you have installed and you'll know if it will run on your system. IMO, that would be the best way to find out if OO.o will run on your box.

Will do. Some dependencies won't scare me as much as PAM does.

Thanks...

Peace...

Why would you want/need PAM to run OpenOffice.org?

There's a Slackware OOo package at linuxpackages.net - why not try installing it and see what happens - if it fails, you can always removepkg it afterwards to restore the system.

I don't know if PAM is needed to run OO, but it's listed as a build requirement.

I've seen that package and it lists Slack 10.2 as the version of Slack it's built for. I did a search on OpenOffice.org for 8.0 of Slack and got no hits. That's why I started this thread and put "older Slackware" in the title.

Peace...
