Onboard Lan doesn't work

I bought a ASUS A7V8X mobo and my Slack 8.1 wont see my onboard lan when i do 'netconfig' and then probe for the card. So i installed the linux drivers from my mobo's install cd but it says its for redhat 7.3 and its a rpm file. Well i ran the rpm but how do probe to see if the rpm worked? Or is this one of those things where i need to call asus to see what they can do for me?

I reviewed the spec sheet at ASUS and the board appears to offer two LAN options, both are Broadcom solutions. One is for a 10/100 Fast Ethernet and the other is a Gigabit controller. Did the rpm file include the source? The source can be recompiled for your kernel.

<edit>
I located two files from ftp.asus.com, both contained a source directory. One was for a 4400 and the other was 5700. Do you know if either of these are the chipset that you have? The 5700 might be a gigabit adapter because the filenames include Tigon3.

digital, your sig is too big. We don't need to see your system specs in every post, can you please remove everything from 'My Slack rig!' to '1 500 rpm case fan' inclusive, thank you
