old KDE configuration in Slackware 13.0

I've just finished my download of Slackware 13 and I'm planning for a new install this evening.

The advice about upgrading seems to be to not use the old ~/.kde for the switch from 3.5 to 4.2.

OK, but what about programs such as Kmail? All my email and account information is buried in ~/.kde and from past experience rebuilding Kmail's old state is not as simple as copying ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail since other important parts of Kmail's configuration are scattered throughout the whole ~/.kde branch (specifically ~/.kde/share/config I think).

So which part of .kde can I safely copy over? Do I have to note down all my configurations by hand?

Any good or bad experiences so far?

I found the following. I haven't done anything like this so don't know how well it works.

Transfer mail and settings to another computer (or another user account on the same machine)

Get rid of ~/.kde and ./kderc and best to get rid of all your old dotfiles, I had remnants of the old KDE even though I had taken out the files mentioned earlier. I would however keep copies of them in another folder.

Just noticed you are using KMail. Therefore the information below will not help you at all.

Once you have re-configured your email client navigate to ~./thunderbird/randomab.default/Mail and replace it with the old file. You should now have all your old emails.

bsdunix's link almost works -- except that my sending accounts weren't preserved. I'm going to have to move them over by noting the settings in 12.2 and reentering them in 13.0.
