Firefox 3 and plugins.

Before installing Firefox 3, I would like to ask you something:

Is there a way to install the new Firefox without installing the plugins again?

Thank you!

First I uninstalled the previous version (2.0.0.14) and then I just installed the new package.
Thanks for the tip, man:-)
A few questions. Do your plug-ins still work? Does flash 9x still work with FF 3.0? Does java work with FF 3.0? I need java to work in FF as I need to log-in to my company oracle database.

Your plugins should all work unless you have them installed to your old /usr/lib/firefox/plugins. Most people should have their global plugins installed under /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, and as long as you use the plugin patch or official firefox package or slackBuild, then your plugin path should be all set.

All of my plugins have been working great. They are all installed under /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins.

I have Flash 9.0 r124, Adobe Reader 8, MPlayer, SVG, and Java plugins installed.

Well, I am writing this reply from within Firefox 3! I've installed it from Slacky.eu.

Thank you!

Hey, no worries:-) I'm very happy with 3.0.....everything works. I'm pleased that 3.0 is in current; this is a exceptional browser!

the 3.0 has the same flash problem as the old 2.0; just go to finance.yahoo.com and open up its new flash version chart; all these Jscript menu bars are hided behind flash chart.

Why? You can just copy your bookmarks.html to your new profile if you create one.

Thats what I did but I didn't work the same way as the old ff. I probably should have taken the time to read up a little but I thought it would be the same as the old ff.

It is the same with the exception of the smart bookmarks. You can just delete those if you don't want them.

What I did when I first started testing FF 3.0 (b1) was copy my entire profile directory. That way I had a backup in case FF 3 junked it up (particularly when messing with experimental addons), and I could still use FF 2 with my original profile. By default your profile is something like ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/, but I actually share mine with Windows so that I can use the same profiles on both OSs. So I just copied the entire folder
/mnt/MEDIA/CrossoverFirefox/*.CrossoverProf
to
/mnt/MEDIA/CrossoverFirefox/*.CrossoverProf3
and changed the 8 random characters (where the '*' is) in the new folder. I then ran firefox -P (use the full path if you aren't sure which firefox that points to) and created a new profile, but selected my copied folder for the profile.

When I used the "new" profile in FF 3.0 I of course had to update some addons (some directly from the devs sites), and had to take away a couple of FF 2 specific hacks, but other than that everything is working great.

Here's a screenshot of what FF3 was doing to scaled images.
Firefox image

And here's the same page in SeaMonkey.
SeaMonkey image

Did some searching and found similar problems going back six months.
Though I didn't have this particular problem with any of the RCs.
Here's a bug report on the issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s....0/+bug/182038

A work-around is to add an option to the "device" section of xorg.conf
Code:
Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true"
This does cause Firefox 3 to properly display images.

Now I'd like to find out if keeping this option is going to cause
any other problems for me down the road.

I should add that I have an ATI 9800pro using the open-source
radeon driver.

Have you ever tried foxmarks?
