NUT (Network UPS Tools) v2.8.1 in Slackware

Evgeny "Jim" Klimov the NUT maintainer (project leader since 2020) learn to be able to build NUT for Slackware.
Issue
https://github.com/networkupstools/nut/issues/2142
Pull request
https://github.com/networkupstools/nut/pull/2143

Some packages are missing, others should be updated, for example:
linuxdoc-tools-0.9.82 -> linuxdoc-tools-0.9.83

Starting today, Slackware also has a section in the config-prereqs.txt file regarding prerequisites for building NUT on different OSes. I did not expect such an interest for Slackware, the respective section is worth reading.

It is kind of overkill to list all the standard Slackware packages needed as a recommended Slackware install is a "full" install. However, the note that "there is no cppcheck, cppunit, valgrind..." is kind of moot as they all are provided as third party packages from slackbuilds.org.

IMHO, valgrind would make sense to include in Slackware as kcachegrind is included in Slackware and kcachegrind is useless without valgrind.

Maybe some of the packages could find their place among the official Slackware ones, now for example we have the Slackbuilds package for cppunit maintained by Kyle Guinn but and by Eric Hameleers (Alien BOB).

Well, nut is available via Slackbuilds.org. I think it would be a better package to have in the distribution than the current genpower package, but I don't know what PV has in his setup and/or is willing to support. (I've been using the slackbuilds package since 14.2; I actually replaced the battery on the UPS the slackware instance containing my important files uses. We're talking years here.)

An aspect to consider in the possible inclusion of NUT is the official support for Slackware, future versions are tested in LXC container farm for Nut CI.

I also have been using NUT for a long time, it's the only pack I have ever used for UPS monitoring.

It requires JRE, which as far as I know is no longer free for business.

PCNS v5.0 ships with AdoptOpenJDK 11 -- https://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA359142/

Nut 2.8.2 is now fully compatible with Slackware.

Does "compatible with Slackware" mean that the Slackbuild and this version number will work well? The Slackbuild for nut is for version 2.7.4. I've been wanting to have my UPS turn the computer off in the correct way for decades, but haven't been able to get anything to work or I wasn't smart enough to figure out the cofig file or whatever. I've had apcupsd, but that was the only one I tried and as you can see I couldn't get it to work because I just don't get it, I suppose. Seeing apcupsd is so old and not being worked on, and nut looks really good, I'd sure like to give it a try and hope this time it can help me a little more than apcupsd did/could. I live out in the woods, literally, and brownouts, blackouts and flickers in the power happen quite often, so something like nut is quite important to me...even though I've not been able to get it to work any time I ever tried.

Basic question - do you have an APC UPS? Because the apcupsd software is dedicated to APC devices. Simplified power supply models are also not of much use, you need SMART models.
