i downloaded and install ntfs-3g from this site.i used the slackware tgz package. when i tried to use this command in the console "mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows" I got this error message "error while loading shared libraries: libfuse.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" does anyone have any ideas. I am currently running slack 10.2.
Did you install FUSE? NTFS-3G won't work without it. To put it simply, FUSE is a kernel module that allows you to build user-mode file systems like NTFS-3G

Rep:
You have to configure the fuse source with "--enable-kernel-module" or else the probably existing fuse module (which is not working with ntfs-3g) won't get overwritten like you want it.
say thanx for the help. few things 1)where to find fuse and how to install it? 2)do I need to recompile my kernel for this to work? 3)ntfs-utils is that package or many?

1) http://ntfs-3g.org/index.html#installation tells you where to find fuse.
2) no
3) not sure what you mean here -- you need ntfs-utils to format, dump ... a ntfs partition. fuse and ntfs-3g are enough to mount a ntfs partition and to read and write files on it.
FUSE is at fuse.sourceforge.net There is a slackbuild for FUSE at slackbuilds.org
You do not need to compile the kernel, just the FUSE module, if necessary. In any case you still need the FUSE user-space tools/libraries.
NB: an important point from the FUSE FAQ:
Quote:
What version of FUSE do I need to use FUSE with Linux 2.4?
FUSE 2.5.3 (supports 2.4.21 or later); later versions include a kernel module compatible with Linux 2.6 only (Linux 2.6.9 or later, as of FUSE 2.6.1).
The latest version of the FUSE libraries retains compatibility with the module for 2.4.x .
