Smile New slackware recruit

I want first to thank everyone who works to make this site possible and those who have helped me on this journey to enlightenment.

I am new to Linux, with my experiences being limited to server installs (rh 7.2) at work which have performed great (albeit a serious learning curve which continues). I have never been out of the shell environment until I decided to install a distribution on my laptop. Decided on Slackware (little scared of what rh will be like in the future) because it was supposed to be the most flexible. I can really see the power in how it can be customized. But there is definitely more thought required (I thought it was harder to install than rh) in the installation and getting things to work.

I love Linux and this site and would much rather support it and the people who make open source work than giving money to microsoft. If I did not have to administer Access at work I would can it completely. Both myself and my company are enjoying great software free of charge. How can I support this site; does Slackware sell a boxed version or something; if so does it come with printed documentation?

What are some other material is on the list of recommended material possibly on administration and bash scripting. The man pages are great but I would love to have something to reference independent of the computer.

Thanks

You can become a contributing member. In the user control panel you can do that.

http://store.slackware.com/cgi-bin/store

You can buy lots of different slackware things there. Including printed manuals

When you buy the Slackware CD set, it comes with the Slackware Essentials Book, (Html version) or you can buy the hard copy.

<edit/> I have found an (html and pdf versions) of Slackware Unleashed.....3rd edition online.

Welcome to LQ and Slack. I'll echo teval's and 320mb's comments: Please consider becoming a Contributing Member of LQ, and please consider patronizing the Slackware store.

As for an excellent overall Linux reference book, I can't say enough good things about Rute http://www.icon.co.za/~psheer/rute-home.html -- J.W.

go to www.tldp.org (the linux documentation project) there you will find a wealth of information. If you go to "guides" there are books available in pdf and html formats free for the downloading.
