I just installed slackware 9.0 because I crashed my previous install. Now I have no window manager but that is fine I wanted to download dropline gnome from the command line. But now it says it is missing 2 libraries for the gnome dropline installer and it will not work, so when I try pktool to access the cdrom after doing su and mount it says the directory is not there. I have the slackware cd in the rom and I would like to install gnome because I believe it has the packages it is looking for. I have no X I am writing this post with links (first time using it actually pretty cool) I did a google search and came up with nothing.
It is asking for two files a libcdda_paranoia.so.0 and libcdda_interface.so.0. I did manage to get the gnome 2.2 that comes on the slack disk to install but I would still like to get the dropline gnome.
It's missing cdparanoia by the sound of it which you can install on Slackware 9.0 by mounting your installation CD, changing to the slackware/ap directory and then typing:
When I installed Slack 9.0, it wouldnt let me run X because of the lack of the cdparanoia package, just got it off the CD, but it seemed strange that a dependency like that could have been left out (I figured it was an integral part of gnome, but I'd told the installer not to install the cd editing/writing packages)...
I downloaded the file I needed from the internet. I gave up on dropline gnome even tho I hate to I have heard really good things about it. I connect to the inter with download speeds about 238ks per second and I go ahead download the installer and the run installpkg then run the installer to download the files and install them. When it gets done and starts to install its like my network goes nuts. Really has me worried I might have been hacked or something it will download the 179 packages and start to install then my moden lights just stay on only going off a few times a minute and the installer stops. I would guess if I were to be downloading in the time the lights were on and I sat here and waited I could of more then likely have downloaded about 200 megabytes. I dont know what went wrong but now my system is all messed up my home icon in gnome is just a piece of paper my trash is the same my file manager wont run I dont know what happened. I want to do this but can I let the installer download the files then kill my internet connection by unplugging my modem? Do I have to uninstall my regular gnome for the dropline gnome to work? I would like to also know if anyone thinks I might have been hacked or does it have something to do with dhcp? Sorry to be so long winded but I just wanted to know what to expect.
