New 2.4.25 kernel, insmod errors

Having just updated my Slackware "current" pc from 2.4.25 to 2.4.25 including modules, source and headers I get MANY insmod errors at about the usb probing stage. These repeat the following messages:
insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.25/kernel/drivers/net/irda/via-ircc.o.gz: insmod via-ircc failed and ..../via-ircc.o.gz: init-module: No such device.
These two messages are repeated several times.

I have no idea what via-irc is for, I do have a Via KT266 motherboard. When I first started the new kernel I had a SigmaTel Y-160 usb-irda dongle plugged in, This device is not supported yet. Removing it does not help.

Sound and X are working and the nvidia driver compiled ok with a warning about the run file being modified.

hi!

via-ircc is the VIA-specific kernel module for a Infrared communication port. This module is tested for at startup by hotplug.

I have a KM266 and had this issue too, because I disabled it in my BIOS. If you don't need infrared communication you can disable it in the hotplug blacklist:

# echo via-ircc >>/etc/hotplug/blacklist

Your next reboot should look better now. :-)

Most users will have irda on com2 turned off in the bios. To actually use the option you need a special (hard to find) irda adaptor connecting to some pins on the motherboard. We actually built one of these in the office to sync to a pda and had no end of problems on various Windows 9x boxes as the irda stack seems to be different on each version of Windows. No wonder that irda never caught on on desktops.

Your mod worked, thanks.
I think this one counts as a bug, we must be getting close to 9.2 now maybe the last with a 2.4 kernel?
