Angry Network+soundcard not recognized after an unsafe shutdown

I was doing more then I should have and crashed(everyting froze) so I just powered it off. After rebooting, and checks for errors after the incorrect unmounting of the partitions, i proceeded into gnome 2.4 soon to realize that my network isn't working (no internet) , and my soundcard isn't working, and proaboly some other things aswell.. Why isn't there any kind of protection for unexpected shutdowns? I'm sure a lot of people eventually get one, whether it be a power outtage or crash. Is there any way to 'restore' it somehow..

thanks

It's very weird that slack lost his configuration from a crash. did you upgrade some sort of system files with swaret? or you modify something? cause believe me my slack box had live several crash and shutdown whit out me having time to unmount root or make a safe shutdown and I haven't lost my config from that.

I was in the process of downloading setup files for Dropline Gnome while it crashed, but that's not even during an installation, just downloading. That shouldn't be the problem.

Anyways now that network+sound card doesn't work, I've tried alsaconfigor whatever command that was, and it couldn't probe any sound cards. It had before when i originally installed slack. Something is screwed up
