Network problem

Okay, I'll go into this best I can.

Alright, so I got Slackware 12.0 installed Via Sun VirtualBox.

It acts up on my desktop, thus why i installed it into VirtualBox.

Problem I'm getting is with networking, when I go to set it up, it says to pick a version, now this is my first time with Slackware, so Im a bit confused, it says Do not choose something unless you know it runs like what your running. So I've tried slack 10.0.1, slack 10.0.2, And slack 9 configs, and none of them work, I activate the card, and it instantly disables.

Anyone know how I can get this setup? I know I sound like an Idiot, just not used to fully working in this.

Welcome to LQ!

Your problem is with Sun VirtualBox. Slackware does not have any such message.
Therefore, you will need to get support for the Sun VirtualBox system.

For Slackware the file to edit is /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf

You call also issue "netconfig" as root to set it up.

I came across this thread as I was having the same issue.
Slackware 12.1 on Sun VirtualBox 1.6.2.

Section 9.11 of the VirtualBox user guide describes the settings needed for static IP of guest. For NAT:

IP address: 10.0.2.15 (one NAT instance active)
Gateway: 10.0.2.2
Name Server: 10.0.2.3

These can be set by running netconfig as root, then rebooting.
This results in a connected virtual slackware.

Hope this helps someone else if they are having the same problem.
