ncurses dialog box

Running menuconfig or slackpkg upgrade-all brings up an ncurses box that is practically unreadable. How can I change the color scheme to make it easier to see?

And a second question - Where can I change the digital clock to 12 hour time and not 24?

1) /etc/dialogrc can be customised
2) Depends on your desktop - kde? xfce?

Recent kernels allows you to set the colourscheme via the $MENUCONFIG_COLOR variable, i.e. "MENUCONFIG_COLOR=mono make menuconfig".
As for how to solve the problem for slackpkg, i have no idea, other than changing the colors for your terminal, and to help with that we'll need to know what terminal you're using, the console/xterm/...

MENUCONFIG_COLOR works fine for menuconfig. I am using Konsole, in Slackware64-current. I really should have added that bit of info. There is no option for changing color schemes in Konsole like 12.2 has. Ncurses is just too light for my aging eyes when using slackpkg - its not that bad for menuconfig.

You can still change the color schemes.
Under "Settings -> Manage Profiles"
create a new profile and set as default.
Then under "Settings -> Edit Current Profile -> Appearance"
you can try other color schemes.
Personally, I think "Green on Black" works well enough with ncurses.
(edit: I agree that "Linux Colors" is probably the best choice for visibility)

Are you running with all the latest updates to slackware?
Sorry I misread your post. Konsole is set to dark pastel color schema you want to use linux color schema.

That works great for menuconfig. Thanks!

Will have to wait and see for slackpkg - no updates yet. I just updated early this am, and no changes as of 2 minutes ago. I update Slackware64-current daily.

I don't update kernel changes since mine is custom. Everything else is done.

Slackpkg had a few updates today, and the ncurses dialog box was much easier to read using Linux Colors in the Konsole box. Looks normal now with the black background instead of the gray. Thanks for all the help.
