I went to the pkgtool and removed mysql 4. Then when I'm trying to install mysql 5 I'm having all kinds of problems. I tried just reinstalling Mysql 4 but I'm having the same problems. So can someone help me get mysql 5 installed? When I ./configure .. i get

Any ideas?

I hate to cry RTFM, but I suggest you have a read of these two threads and the exceptionally detailed installation instructions of MySQL (there are links in the threads to the relevant sections of the MySQL manuals).

Searching for "mysql" in the slack forum brings up ... well ...

... quite a few threads. Most of them are all about not having created the correct mysql user or not creating the databases. I can see no reason why you would have to remove your actual databases between changing database server, although there may be a procedure for upgrading from 4 - 5, again, you'll have to RTM.

I thought I would be able to do a fresh install and start from scratch since I just reinstalled slackware and it install mysql 4 not 5. So I uninstalled 4 via pktool, now while I am following the manual to install 5 I get that error. For some reason I just cant do a normal new installation
