Ok, i've added the "root" user to /etc/group plugdev and now i can open the link for my nokia phone without having to manually mount it. It's weird because i thought root had full access and wasn't supposed to be added to plugdev.

So camera is only working thru gphoto2 / gtkam so i'll just have to live with that.

Thanks for your help

Hi,

Did you look at the sticky that rworkman posted; 12.0 and HAL - READ THIS!? You should read it.

You probably need to setup local rules for your device(s).

A shot in the dark, you could try the command to reload rc.messagebus if you changed udev or group.

/etc/rc.d/rc.messagebus reload

then log out or reboot.

My SD memory card for my Nikon Coolpix camera is read perfectly by Slackware 12; I'm running XFce. I plug my memory stick into my USB card reader and it is auto-mounted ( a little icon appears on XFce).
Did you add yourself to plugdev in /etc/group?

For whats its worth my Canon EOSd doesn't work via usb either. I ended up buying a card reader, which supposedly is faster I read anyway.

It works now... i had to recompile the kernel with USB Mass Storage as a module (and everything else related to it).
