mount cdrom

I can't get slack to automatically mount a cdrom at boot despite there being a CD on the drive.

I have an IDE CD Drive on /dev/hdd. I have enabled modprobe ide-cd in rc.modules.

I have also added the following to fstab:

/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,owner, ro 1 2

I can only get it to mount manually:

mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

What am i missing out.

Eric

The "noauto" in your fstab tell it not to mount it automatically.
If you want your cd-rom mounted at boot (which is unusual),
change the "noauto" to "auto".

in one of the older version of slackware there was the option on install to mount the cdrom on boot if there was one in the cdrom drive.

It was removed on the newer versions. 8 onwards a think

What I said isn't right. I guess the default is to mount the device at
boot unless noauto is specified. But, when I tried deleting noauto from
the cdrom fstab entry, it still didn't mount at boot.

Guyz In Red Hat the noauto is still there and mounts my drives at boot. I think the problem is not noauto.

Correct me if am wrong.

heres a quote from slackware book found here

http://www.slackware.com/book/index.php

i always forget about the slackware book but it is always worth a look.

Quote:
Some devices are automatically mounted when you boot up your computer. These are listed in the /etc/fstab file. Anything that you want to be mounted automatically gets an entry in that file. For other devices, you'll have to issue a command every time you want to use the device.
