this is the message that modprobe agpgart generates:
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz: init_module: No such device
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz: Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz: insmod agpgart failed

You may need to load special drivers for your video adapter, or you have special drivers loaded that are stopping the standard module perhaps. What video adapter does your system use?

If X is loaded using framebuffer or VESA mode then that may be stopping the module. You might want to try loading the module without X running and no framebuffer enabled. I think the module is to provide an interface for video drivers.

Ok Ok Ok

did dmesg and it said that my VIA chipset is unsupported...

so i did
modprobe agpgart agp_try_unsupported=1

and the module loaded....

but now, I still can't load X using fglrx....
it outputs me an error msg which i can't remember but the general idea was that it can't load PCI Bus 1 0 0

part of the output of cat /proc/pci is:
Bus 1, device 0, function 0:
VGA compatible controller: PCI device 1002:4966 (ATI Technologies Inc) (rev 1).
IRQ 10.
Master Capable. Latency=32. Min Gnt=8.
Prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xd8000000 [0xdbffffff].
I/O at 0xc000 [0xc0ff].
Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xe0020000 [0xe002ffff].

Bus 1, device 0, function 1:
Display controller: PCI device 1002:496e (ATI Technologies Inc) (rev 1).
Master Capable. Latency=32. Min Gnt=8.
Prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xdc000000 [0xdfffffff].
Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xe0030000 [0xe003ffff].

(just though this part was relavent)

p.s.
I though i needed a new thread for that, but don't want to give you the wrong impression - so you would think that i am a spammer.
but, if you agree that this requires a new thread.... notify me

Do a search on the forum as IIANM a few 9x00 users have said they had to change the device id in the XF86Config-4 file to get it to work.
...and it sure sounds like that's where your problem lies.
