In fact, there are no module in your initrd, which is not normal.

I can be wrong but I think the package kernel-modules is corrupted. Might worth to reinstall it.

that did it... now it boots properly but i have an X issue now which is going to be a different thread. this thread is solved

All it teaches me is to keep an install disk in the house.
