Mixer problems

Hi

Everytime I reboot I will have to turn up the volume in the KDE sound mixer since it automatically turns down all the levels in a config file somewhere. Does anyone know where the file for the sound volume settings is located?

I pulled this form www.insyte.uni.cc:

Alsa

Alsa is the sound manager used by linux.

As superuser

alsaconf

As a normal user type

alsamixer

then

su

alsactl store

to store your alsa settings

Later on if ever you have problems with alsa or oss, try running aumix then save your settings. It might solve your problem.

Good luck.

Great

It works now... I had done that same procedure but with a normal user, then I rebooted and logged in as root not even thinking about that I was using a different user when I used the "store" command. Thanks!

Also, be aware that KDE has its own mixer, and you can check a setting -- "load kde mixer settings on startup"
That's what burns most people :-D

Lesson: KDE mixer, kmix, will override your default alsa settings.

But did you do:
Code:
alsamixer
alsactl store
As root?

And if so, try running
Code:
alsactl restore
when you notice the PCM is back to 0.
