making .tgz packages from sources

Anyone know which progam does this? I've heard of one that, after you ./configure && make, you can then use the program to create a .tgz file for the program, so it's easier to keep track of and remove for slack.

Slackware Linux Essentials
Chapter 16. Slackware Package Management
(http://www.slackware.com/book/index....rce=x4132.html)
--------------------
makepkg

makepkg(8) will package up the current directory into a valid Slackware package. It will search the tree for an symbolic links and add a creation block to the postinstallation script for creating them during the package install. It also warns of any zero-length files in the package tree.
---------------------

The only thing you need to remember is that makepkg is located in /sbin (on my Slack 9.0) so unless you've changed things you're gonna need to be root to launch it.

Thanks, makepkg will help out a lot. I'm also going to try checkinstall sometime soon, too. Thanks for the help!
