Lost my partitions - Udev?

Hi all,

I suddenly seem to have developed a situation, where some of my partitions are not visible in KDE system:/media?

The only partition I can see and access now in /media is my slackware 12 / partition.

If I make relevant entries in fstab, It is possible to get the other partitions visible again, so I know that they are ok.

I would really prefer it if I could get udev working again as it was, and negate the need for fstab entries.

I can access usb devices, removable usb HDD's and CD/DVD's normally, I just cant access my other local partitions.

Is there a way I can 'Clean' my udev settings to be able to see my local partitions again?

Which files can I safely delete to make udev recreate/redetect my partition table again?

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

Cheers

Orbit

Hi,

You can look at the '/etc/udev/rules.d/' for the rules.

I would suggest that you look at the sticky '12.0 and HAL - READ THIS!'. You'll have too weed through to get the rose.

Hi onebuck,

Thanks for that, I have trawled through that huge thread, and unfortunately did not find the answers to my specific system problem.

Can anyone help here please, I have done extensive reading and I still can't seem to find out how to fix my system.

Not a solution, but some other input: Last night I did a little bit of searching to understand HAL better and to find a way to use it with a lighter window manager than I do now. In my search I stumbled upon an HAL setting which sets some partitions ignorable -- those partitions that are on locally installed hard disks.

When I read your post it reminded me of this feature -- maybe your problem is not directly related to udev, HAL is probably also capable of messing with this kind of setting.
