ld: cannot find -lfreetype

Hi. I'm trying to compile a 2.6 kernel,but when I do make xconfig,it errors out saying "ld:cannot find -lfreetype". I checked the Changes file,and I have the right version of binutils. I also tried editing /etc/ld.conf and adding /usr/lib where libfreetype resides,but that didn't help. I tried looking on the internet,bit I couldn't find this problem and any related problems were too complex for me to understand. Thanks for your help.

After entering /usr/lib into your /etc/ld.conf file did you run ldconfig as root?

What does the following command print out?

Code:
/sbin/ldconfig -p | grep libfreetype
Also on my system its the /etc/ld.so.conf file. I don't know if that is the way on your system.

Good Luck!

Hi. The file is also called ld.so.conf on my system,I just didn't type it out that way. I added /usr/lib to it and ran ldconfig as root. That command output:

Code:
libfreetype.so.6 (libc6)=>/usr/lib/libfreetype.so.6
EDIT:Fixed by installing a newer version of libfreetype(although the original version was up to date).
