Lightbulb Kswaret

Found this little swaret front end while surfing.

http://freshmeat.net/projects/kswaret/

Installed it and found something interesting. I recently had to go from dsl to dialup and my swaret downloads were in the 1kb-2kb/sec range. I installed this program just out of curiosity and noticed that my downloads were running 1.6-4.4kb/ sec!! I tried it a different times of day with different servers and got the same results every time. Any ideas as to why??

not sure, but updating through swaret (or anything else) using a dial-up is a pain in the butt (i used to do it myself). Try upgrading to cable-highspeed.

Yeah it is a pain, but it's that or nothing right now. I was just curious if there was anything in the program that speeds up the downloads so maybe I could apply it to other apps and speed things up a little.

not sure, but for some reason the KDE dial up apps (kppp, and apparently KSwaret) work very well. maybe it has to do with KDE.
