Kind of a Mush-Gush thing...
I'm not having a problem, I am just going to write about my second Slackware experience.
I tried slack when I was somewhat of a newbie and of course, got a little lost and
gave up. I went to Red Hat and now have been using Fedora since it came out.
Fedora is an excellent distribution for many reasons...but it's a little bloated
and doesn't follow any standards. Needless to say, it works and is learnable.
I got done testing Fedora 2 (test program over) and that freed up my old Dell
test machine (old and slow) so I just today made a snap decision to install
Slackware 9.1. Being a little more experienced, the installation and configuration
so far has gone very well. I have upgraded a few packages, the kernel, put in the
nVidia driver, installed a Perl module using CPAN, have my anti-virus up and running,
have Thunderbird and Firefox tuned up and am ready to install more software!
This is the thing. Slackware is absolutely wonderful. It runs MUCH faster than
Fedora did on this old machine. All peripherals are running just fine...except for
the mouse wheel, for some reason...I'll get to that later.
I had no trouble getting around the system and it is rock solid. This is what
Linux is all about. Now I have a real decision to make. I am all set to update
my "big" machine and my laptop (both running Fedora Core 1) to Fedora
2 because I'm familiar with it and it's working well. However, having run
into Slack....this forces a tough decision....in just several hours I have come
to like this distro so much that I'm thinking of just ditching Fedora and coming
over here! What to do, what to do....
Question for those in the know. Since 9.1 has been out since last September,
is there any public information as to when the next version of Slack is going
to be released? If soon, I'll just keep Fedora 1 until the next Slack comes out
and maybe just join the fine bunch that lives over here.
Ditch that DeadRat spinoff and just go with Slack, you know you want to. You could do a clean install of 9.1 and then update to -current with swaret to have all the latest software, with Slack's speed and clean and simple interface and tools.

Yeah, thanks for the pep-talk. The "you know you want to" is soooo true.
I was taking a potty break just a while ago (while the slack machine is compiling
some software) and thinking "you know, I think I should just DO it"....
I have only been working with it for about 8 hours now and it is soooo different...
in a "better" kind of way....I just can't get over the speed! All of the tools are
available, and any that I was missing I found right away. Man....it is really something
what I was missing.
So, I thank you for your encouraging response!
I'm still playing but I might have to go to bed soon.
I'll be on the road with my Fedora Laptop...and it amost seems like I'm going
back to Windows.......and it's somewhat of a Linux distro! I think.
This Slack seems like it's ALL Linux and I'm liking it...
Well, since you've added Slack to your distro-blurb, I'd say you've already made the plunge.
Just do it, mang.
I'm on my slaptop right now.
The thing I love about slack, is that everything just works.
The bit of fiddling you do have to do doesn't get mucked up.
I was in the same sort of situation you are in now. I tried all the "point and Click" distros at first (Redhat, Mandrake, Suse, Fedora" and it was just like using windows. Finally, I came across slack and the first day I installed it I didnt bother sleeping. There was just so many things that I found out I could change, it was like I was in heaven. I've been slacking for 5 months now and I think the only place I would think about going is LFS, but I am still working on that one.

Hey folks...
I made my decision....I am going to do a clean install of Slack 9.1 on my big machine...get it
all running...learn the ropes a little more. Once that's up and running, I'll convert my laptop too.
Thanks for all of the notes. This is really a weird phenomenon (sp?). I have been REALLY happy just running on my machines without many problems at all. I have played with a couple of distro's and of course, Klaus Knopper is responsible for bringing Linux into my life. Thanks to him but I really wan't interested in going Debian either.
Yesterday was like a religious experience. I spent about an HOUR with my new Slack install and it was like something came over me. It was Totally different. It didn't take long for me, after messing with a couple of config files to say to myself "this is it" and as time went on, this was confirmed. J.W., you say bliss. I'll agree to that...but it's also just a satisfaction thing. I was *very* disappointed in how Fedora slowed down my machine. I tried canning a bunch of processes but to no avail. Slack is faster than lightning.
Here is another thing that I like. The Config files are "explained" well. The comments make editing these a snap. So, to everyone who encourages and recommends....keep it up. I'm sure that I will have some questions as I configure my new systems...and even run into a problem here and there. I appreciate in advance, the help.
So, Shade...yeah...I made the plung. The mose irritating part of this is that I have to go out of town for three days now for work and won't be able to get started for a while!
